Show Spoiler

a5c7b9f00b It is the 23rd century and together with the crew of the Federation starship Enterprise we travel across the galaxy to meet new and exciting life forms on distant planets. The 80 episode TV series which was produced from 1966 to 1969 has now cult character and has fans all over the world.
Captain James T. Kirk and the crew of the Starship Enterprise explore the galaxy and defend the United Federation of Planets.
For those that don't know, Star Trek was the original science fiction show to win over a massive fanbase. It is appreciated for having inspired many to boldly go where no man (or woman) has gone before. Is ittimelessShakespeare? Well, perhaps in the way Shakespeare inspired the onslaught of perverted literature this inspired of a new cheese.

A cheese with floating green energy hands in space trying to grab your starship. It certainly has an exotic taste but it's not what you're accustomed to and it feels really awkward. Like that seems out of place kind of way. It certainly depends what you're using the cheese for. It's certainly a different experience and you're interested in what else this culture has to offer. Ther's always something new to try. Watching this is a step of boldly going where at least you've never gone before.

This show was meant to be way of secret communication at the time for issues that were being hotly debated. An analogy The show features three great characters in Captain Kirk, a full blown womanizer, Mr Spock, who values his logic to the death with which I can sympathize, and Dr McCoy, who will always make sure you know he's a doctor. The side characters are also fun but I always feel like they're never delved into to the full potential. There aren't very ongoing stories because everybody just seems to get along which I honestly don't buy completely into. But that is, I must concede, the point. A future where in everyone likes each other. This does make for the interesting relationship between Mr Spock and McCoy where McCoy favors compassion and emotions but Spocka Vulcan chooses to shun these things and let what's interesting just be interesting.

The downside to me I must stress that I am a story person. A person of character growth to be more specific. I rarely feel like anything one episode matters in the next. This I must say is the hole in the cheese.

Speaking of the cheese comparison, I must say the special effects and costumes are so fake it might occasionally appeal but mostly makes one cringe. Now speaking more so of cheese I must comment on an episode where Abraham Lincoln appears floating in space and him and our main characters must fight against the evil historical figures. That is in all fairness a potential brilliant idea. But that's really all it is. An idea not used to it's potential. No interesting remarks made between him and the villains or what makes them good or bad. Nothing of that sorts is discussed. I never felt, in any part of the series,(except maybe the pilot) like morals were being pushed. This show is praised for featuring the first interracial kiss on television but in all honesty it doesn't count. They were forced to kiss by an evil godlike being! It was not two genuine lovers finding solace in each other. And on top of that the quality of that particular episode is atrocious in a way that's not even so bad it's good. The show has it's so bad it's good moments suchWilliam Shatner's over the top acting.

Overall this was the most intelligent bad show there was. A show that had guts but not the best writing. Or perhaps the cheese is just too foreign to me. Something I'm glad I tried because nobody likes a picky eater that won't try anything.
Okay, I'm a trekker. This is the classic, and I felt it was my duty to watch the original episodes. I was really impressed by what I saw. I know a lot of people think the original series of Star Trek is silly, and I will agree that in some ways, it seems pretty out of date today. But there are still so many things about this show that really won't ever seem silly to me, no matter how plywood-and-styrofoam the SFX may be.

First of all, the characters really are great. We all know them. Kirk, Spock, McCoy, and the rest of the crew are wonderful - there's more than one side to each of them, and the relationships we see between some of them were unique to the rest of the television world at the time. Not only this, but the episodes are creative and well-written. What does it matter if you can tell that's just a guy in a gorilla suit? You have to give them credit for doing their best, and starting a science fiction revolution.

The original series of Star Trek, TOS, really did go where no other show wanted or dared to go. In its time, there were things that couldn't be said or done on television. TOS addressed these issues in every way it could. War, racism, sexism, prejudice, and everything 60s society wasn't supposed to see in perspective on TV. Vulcans and Klingons were each a side of our own selves, and in its entirety, Star Trek was of course the human adventure. Hidden behind the premise of a futuristic voyage through the stars, TOS showed people the issues and aspects of our own lives here in the present. I'm a Gen-X child of the nineties, and I still appreciate this show greatly for what it did.

Not only did TOS do all these things in its subtly revolutionary way, but it also paved the road, of course, for all the rest of the Star Trek universe that unfolded in the following years. As you may already know, Gene Roddenberry's Star Trek moral is IDIC - Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combinations. This is the driving force behind Star Trek. Anything is possible. Exploring life isinfiniteexploring the universe. Oh, I know it's corny, but it's true, and this is the series that started it all. All the props to Gene Roddenberry, Great Bird of the Sky.

-Bluefly (And, don't forget to think of DeForest Kelley, may he rest in peace.)

The Vulcan hand salute was improvised by Nimoy on the set of "Amok Time." As a child, his religious Jewish parents often took Nimoy to the local synagogue where he had seen people making this hand gesture while saying prayers–a handsign done with both hands by the descendants of Aaron (called cohen, plural cohanim) when the congregation of a Jewish synagogue is being blessed with the "May the Lord bless you and keep you." This inspired Nimoy to create the Vulcan hand salute. It takes place in the 23rd Century, the original pilot episode titled "The Cage" takes place in 2254 A.D. while the rest of the series takes place from the years 2266-2269 A.D. The "T" stands for Tiberius therefore his full name is James Tiberius Kirk. Yes and according to the late Gene Roddenberry, in 1966 before the second Star Trek pilot, Where No Man Has Gone Before had aired. Network executives were concerned about Spock having pointy ears because the shape made him appear to look "too diabolical and Satanic looking." And along with their other request that the Enterprise not have a womansecond in command. And at the time actress Majel Barrett was dating Mr. Roddenberry so he was able to work out a comprise much to everybody's satisfaction. He said, "so I married the woman and kept the alien because I could not have done it the other way around." He worked in summer stock theater. In 1969 after learning of ST Trek: TOS's cancellation, Shatner was in somewhat of a dire financial situation due to his then wife's filing for divorce and being suddenly unemployed. He contacted his agent who got him work in summer stock theater for the next few months and he bought a used pickup truck with camper shell attached. The sudden reality of no income, bills, his impending divorce and being low on funds made him realize that he couldn't afford even economy style motels while working. He then set off driving to each and every location to worka cast member in Some Like It Hot and the truck with camper shell actually paid off in the long run. He lived this way from memorial day weekend up through labor day weekend that year when his summer job ended. And from then on William Shatner was able to keep busyan actor working steadily in various prime time television shows which paid well and he was able to stay afloat financially.
